The pattern here is of a stonefly nymph. The fly is known as the rubber leg, this fly fishes well all year and works well as your top fly in a double fly rig. The weight of the fly easily gets to the bottom where fish are feeding and where this bug is actually found. I fish this particular pattern almost every time I go out fishing, its my "bread and butter" fly and is a must have in any fly box.
Materials needed -
- 6/0 brown thread
- Brown chenille (can be tied in black or an assortment of colors)
- Rubber legs
- Bead head
- hook size 4-10
- .015 to .030 lead weight
