Caddis life cycle

rock caddis

X-Caddis

Elk hair caddis

The rock caddis is a great fly to experiment with, the fly should be tied in different colors in order to find the right combination that will land multiple fish. The two most comon colors I use are red like in the video and a lime green. This is also a great fly to start off with if you're new to fly tying. Good luck tying be sure to give this a try remember to submit your fishing pictures.

Materials needed
-8/0 natural colored thread (brown, tan, olive)
-hook size 16-20 nymph
-small bead for weight
-peacock herl for thorax

The fly pattern here is of an x-caddis used to imitate an emerging caddis fly. The pattern fishes very well through the caddis hatch's and on through the summer. Try fishing this fly along the ripples or along the bank. If you see fish rising and you're not sure exactly what they're keying on I would give this a try there as well. Be sure to send us picture of the fish you catch on your x-caddis. Good luck tying.

Materials needed
- 8/0 thread brown
- size 16 dry fly hook
- tan dubbing
- white and orange z-yarn
- elk hair

The elk hair caddis is a great fly to have when fishing low pressured creeks or streams. Fishing the elk hair caddis where the fish see a lot of traffic may not produce like it would in some other areas. The fish in a high traffic area tend to be more selective with there food and much more cautious. So keep that in mind when fishing during the summer months you may want to try the X-caddis instead of the elk hair caddis. However when fishing those small streams this is my go to fly. Be sure to send us pictures of the nice fish the pattern catches you. Good luck tying.

Materials needed
-6/0 brown thread
-standard dry fly hook size 10-16 (I prefer 12-14)
-peacock herl
-brown saddle hackle
-xs copper wire
-elk hair
